Being free means to be able to walk around without being harassed or discriminated against by “white folks” or the police. My own experience was walking to the BART station, and a lady thought I was a kid who stole her wallet, so she called police and I ended up being searched.
When you look at Downtown Oakland today, you’ll see brightly detailed murals of a community that is built with honor, determination, and honesty. You’ll hear BLM as a sign to say, “Stop ‘accidentally’ killing our race because of false accusations.” The artwork is an inspiration to become a better community for our younger generations who are experiencing discrimination simply because of the history we had.
We need to work together and try our best to get the equal rights we deserve.
