I believe being free is being able to walk out alone, not being scared of getting raped, attacked, or tackled down by those who are supposed to protect us.
The personal meaning is being tired of listening and hearing about people of color and muslims being attacked and looked down upon because of 9/11 and because some find it difficult to believe that there are other human beings who have a different color. It also goes out to women, no matter race or status, who get forced or coerced into difficult acts by those who are trained no better than dogs.
My white skin doesn’t show that I’m Mexican, so I’ve had privilege here and there. But I am a woman and, unfortunately, have been brought down by those who still hang onto the threads of sexism. I had to watch my own mother being told she’s a poor excuse of a woman because she was tired of not being listened to and decided to not clean for a day.
This is important to me because I cannot stand seeing others being hated just because of who they are. With my own experiences being stacked up and on the verge of toppling over, it causes my fear and anger to pop out.
