TWO SIDES OF A STORY
My own experience of what it means to be free is based on being the child of immigrant parents. They sacrificed everything to give me a better future and let me have a proper education, a roof over my head, and many worldwide opportunities to help me achieve and succeed in life. That, to me, signifies being free because they never had the same opportunities like me and lived the same life as I am living. But that also got me thinking that I don’t necessarily feel free, because there is always this inside voice in me asking, “Why couldn’t it be the same for them?” It’s not fair. Being free is doing whatever makes you happy, escaping from everything that holds you back. But the thought of my parents and what could have been but wasn’t for them says otherwise.
