WE’VE LEARNED THAT QUIET ISN’T ALWAYS PEACE

And yet the dawn is ours and yet we do it
somehow we do it
We are striving to forge a union with purpose
And so we lift our gazes
We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace
If we’re to live up to our own time
But in all the bridges we’ve made
We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace
It’s the past we step into
Rather than share it
We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace
-Inspired by Amanda Gorman’s “The Hill We Climb”
An experience I have had with freedom is sitting on the bus freely. Back in the day, people my color couldn’t do that and many more things, so our leaders who fought for change made sure those things happened. They tried to fight for those rights by having quiet protests, but that wasn’t really getting them anywhere. So they kept fighting for equal rights until we got them, and they never gave up.
This is important to me because a lot of young people have forgotten the fact that these rights weren’t always here and had to be fought for for many years. They cost a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, so I feel that we should forever be grateful and never forget the people who stood up for our country.
